National Assembly committed to supporting Scouting movement in Kenya; says Speaker Wetang’ula

The National Assembly is committed to supporting scouting activities in the country, Speaker Rt Hon (Dr.) Moses Wetang'ula has said.
Hon. Wetang'ula noted that the scouting movement plays a key role in shaping the character, behaviour and future of young people.
"The scouting movement has immensely contributed to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional and character potentials," said Hon. Wetang'ula.
The Speaker made the remarks when he hosted the World Scout Parliamentary Union-Kenya (WSPU) officials for a consultative meeting in his office at Parliament Buildings today.
Led by WSPU President Hon. John Kiarie, (Dagoreti South) the officials expressed their desire to have the organization anchored in the State department for Devolution through a legislation to enhance scouting activities in counties in collaboration with County governments.
"The scouting movement is undertaking many activities that have positive impacts on young people and we can enhance the programmes in collaboration with governors," said Hon. Kiarie.
Hon. Kiarie elaborated that this can be achieved through legislation.
Hon. Wetang'ula assured the team of Parliament's efforts in dealing with their concerns.
He added that the success of scouting in Kenya owes much to the advocacy efforts of Parliamentarians.
"The advocacy at the legislative level has resulted in increased support for scouting initiatives, ensuring that their programmes reach every corner of our diverse nation," Wetang'ula explained.
Members present included, Hon. Tabitha Mutinda (WSPU first vice president), Hon Dorice Donya (second vice president) Hon Innocent Mugabe (WSPU Africa president) and Hon. Wilberforce Oundo and the Executive Director, Poppins Misoi among others.
