Sen. Agnes Kavindu (Machakos) has raised concerns about the transition rates of Kenyan students to secondary schools, universities and tertiary institutions.ย

While seeking a Statement from the Senate Committee on Education on the floor of the House this afternoon, the Machakos Senator asked the Committee to outline the accountability mechanism that the Ministry of Education has put in place to ensure 100% student transition.ย

Sen. Kavindu asked the Members of the Sen. Joe Nyutu-led Committee to explain in detail the measures the Government has instituted to assist learners who do not qualify for placement in any of the institutions of higher learning to acquire the necessary skills.

โ€œThe Education Committee should provide us with the data of learners who transitioned to secondary schools, universities and tertiary institutions to determine whether all learners accessed education,โ€ Sen. Kavindu enquired.ย

In her second request for a Statement, Sen. Kavindu requested the Education Committee to conduct an inquiry into the status of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in Machakos County.ย

The Senator urged the Committee to find out whether the teacher-to-pupil ratio in the county meets the established standards and explain the remuneration structure of the ECDE teachers in the county.ย

The Education Committee will subsequently report to the house on the measures the County Government of Machakos has taken to reduce the rate of school dropouts in the County.
