The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Gladys J. Boss has called for intensified cross-border collaboration to promote the growth of democracy among regional legislatures. She made the call when she hosted a delegation from the National Assembly of Malawi at Parliament Buildings. The delegation is in the country to learn the technical intricacies of the Kenyan Chamber system.
The esteemed delegation led by Hon. Madalitso Kadzombo,First Deputy Speaker and Hon. Aisha Adams, Second Deputy Speaker, is keen to grasp the nuances of electronic voting, attendance management and the protocol surrounding the recognition of Members by presiding officers in chambers. These aspects are pivotal in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of parliamentary proceedings.
The Deputy Speaker in her remarks said, โAs custodians of parliamentary procedure and guardians of democratic principles, it is our collective duty to foster an environment conducive to robust debate and informed decision-makingโ, she noted.
โThrough collaborative efforts such as this exchange, we can fortify our parliamentary systems, ensuring they remain resilient and responsive to the evolving needs of our respective nations. Together, we can strive towards greater transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the governance processes of our nations.โ Hon. Boss added .
Hon. Boss illustrated the advantages of Kenya's digitized system in Parliament Chambers, citing improved time management, streamlined facilitation of member speeches, and enhanced accountability during voting. She also lauded the initiative of the Malawian counterparts, expressing confidence that the interactions would deepen mutual understanding and foster stronger bonds between the legislative bodies.
