National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr) Moses Wetang'ula held a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons in Canada, Hon. Greg Fergus in his office at Parliament Buildings.

Hon. Fergus is leading a delegation from Canada comprising MPs among other leaders for a visit to Kenya.
Acknowledging the strong ties between Canada and Kenya, the Speaker urged the delegation to advocate for relaxed visa entry rules, particularly for students and Kenyan visitors, to facilitate access to opportunities.

The Speaker highlighted the vast, untapped potential of the East African Community, which he added that could be adequately tapped for the benefit of millions of residents in the region.

"Kenya is the gateway to EAC nations and through us, Canada can take advantage to utilise investment opportunities available in the region," said Speaker Wetangโ€™ula.

He further recognized the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's (CPA) role in fostering parliamentary collaboration as he reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its principles of democratic governance and parliamentary practice while advocating for its recognition as an international organization.

Hon. Wetang'ula lauded the Canadian government for its support to Kenya, particularly in empowering aspiring women leaders through funding from UN Women, which receives financial and technical assistance from Canada.

Members present were; Hon. Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), Hon. Peter Kaluma (Homabay), Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut), Hon. Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Hon. Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Hon. Leah Sankare (Kajiado), Hon. David Ochiengโ€™ (Ugenya).

National Assembly Clerk, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, Mr. Steve Apopo (Director/Chief of Staff), and Prof. Nyokabi Kamau (ED-CPST) were also present.

The Canadian delegation included Mr. Christopher Thornley, the Canadian High Commissioner, his Deputy, Mr. Richard Cannings (MP), Ms. Arielle Kayabaga (MP), and Alexiand s Brunelle-Duceppe (MP), among other leaders.
